Longtime Babylon Village resident and family matriarch Therese M. Healy died Sept. 30, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was 80.

“She was a kind and caring woman who always put others ahead of herself,” said her daughter Maureen Cunningham of Babylon.

Mrs. Healy had dedicated her life to her family. She had lived on Prospect Street in Babylon Village for 18 years and, prior to that, on Tanglewood Road in West Islip for more than 20.

In addition to her daughter, she leaves behind her children, Thomas and his wife Anne of Caldwell, New Jersey, and Diane Winne and her husband David of Cold Spring, New York. Her son-in-law, David Cunningham of Babylon; her grandchildren, Brendan, Maggie, Conor, Heather, Thomas and Mary; her siblings, Jack Rayher and Marilyn Alexander; her goddaughter, Kathleen O’Connor and many nieces and nephews also survive her as does her cat, Paco. She was predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth McCormick, Marie Shaw and Margaret Rayher.

She reposed at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, West Islip, on Oct. 2, 2011. A Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 3, 2011 at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Babylon. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Babylon.
