Deadly fire in West Babylon

Google imageGoogle imageSuffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a fatal fire that broke out in West Babylon Sunday morning. Suffolk County Police reported the following:

 First Precinct officers responded to 68 15th St. at approximately 5:50 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a fire at the location. Four residents, two men, one woman and her 8-year-old son, were in the home at the time of the fire.

 James Vella, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other adult male resident was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and smoke inhalation. A First Precinct police officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The woman and her son were not injured. 

 Following a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the fire to be non-criminal in nature.
