Police looking for witnesses to hit and run that seriously injured pedestrian in Lindenhurst

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Lindenhurst, on Saturday. Police gave this account:

 Suffolk County Police received a 911 call at approximately 6:15 a.m. reporting a man walking in the lanes of travel on northbound North Wellwood Avenue near Herzel Boulevard. Approximately five minutes later, police received a 911 call from a different caller reporting the man was now lying in the road. An investigation determined the man was struck by a vehicle, which fled the scene.  

 The man, 27 years old. of Brooklyn, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, for treatment of multiple broken bones and a head injury.

 Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
