Babylon News & Muse

Is it just me, or is there a wave of motor vehicles crashing into buildings going on for the past couple of years? Last weekend a couple accidentally crashed into the Seventh Day Adventist school building. Fortunately, no one was hurt, although firemen from Babylon Village Fire Department had a lot of trouble in getting one of the car’s occupants out.

•The holidays are approaching quickly and we all need to get ready (that is if you celebrate any of the holidays). I will try to list a number of holiday celebrations in the column so you can note them on your calendars.

•I was upset to realize that I missed the 37th Annual Christmas Reveal at Roomors this past Sunday. Pat and her staff always do a phenomenal job setting up for Christmas. I have to limit my time there because I can buy out the shop! In any event, stop down to see what they have to offer…I guarantee that you will find items for lots of people on your gift list! Roomors is located at 225 Deer Park Avenue, at the corner of George Street.

•I stopped at Edible Arrangements this afternoon to buy a couple of frozen yogurts to take home and keep in the freezer. They are delicious and very light. Located at 80A West Main Street, the store is located opposite Fancy Lee’s Restaurant. I send their fruit arrangements for birthdays, funerals…almost any occasion. The fruit is always fresh and delicious and delivered on time.

•I had surgery on my right foot last week (which explains why there was no column and why I missed Roomors opening). I’ve had to stay off the foot for the most part and as a result have been eating a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. While I waited for my yogurt drinks, I stopped into Karina’s Deli, which is right next door to Edible Arrangements to order a sandwich. Priscilla, the new owner, was extremely helpful. Stop in and check out her muffins, which are fantastic. In fact she makes almost everything that she sells, including roasting the meats! The deli is open until 6 p.m., and this is a real boon, since most of the other delis seem to close earlier.

•By the way, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 94 in Babylon is presenting a Murder Mystery Dinner “Sparks at the Powder Keg” on Fri., Nov. 17 at the Legion Hall at 22 Grove Place. The $35 ticket cost includes dinner, the show, wine, beer, soda and dessert. Reservations are required. Guests are encouraged to dress in the style of the 1920s. Seating starts at 7 p.m., with dinner is served at 7:45 p.m., and the show begins promptly at 8 p.m. Call Linda at 917-549-0887 or Jane at 631-225-0239 for information or tickets. There will be door prizes and raffles, and the show will be produced by South Shore Theater.com

•Happy Anniversary to Eileen and Tom Whalen. Wonderful birthday wishes to two good friends, Sue Borg and Linda Finn!
