Schaffer hosting Safe Boating event Friday morning

Kickoff to summer boating season

On Friday, May 26, Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer will join Gina Lieneck, a local resident who in 2005 lost her daughter in a boating accident, and local elected officials and boating safety activists to call on residents to practice safe measures while on the water this summer. This announcement comes at the beginning of Memorial Day weekend, one of the busiest boating weekends of the year. With operator inattention being the biggest cause of boating accidents in New York in 2016, it is vital to remind residents to be alert while traveling on the waterways.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Venetian Shores Waterfront, Venetian Blvd, Lindenhurst.

Gina Lieneck will speak about her personal tragedy and urge residents to take every measure possible to ensure safety on the Great South Bay. In addition, Angelo Giovanniello, Commanding Officer from the United States Power Squadron, will be on hand to discuss boating safety courses offered by his organization.
