Voters approve library budgets; elect trustees

The following libraries held budget votes and elections this week. Following are the results:

•The Babylon Library budget was approved this week 173 to 21.

The budget will reduce the tax rate in the library district from $10.18 to $10.17 per $100 of assessed value.

The budget was within the New York State tax cap.

Incumbent library Trustee Robert Brink ran unopposed and was reelected to another five-year term.

 •Copiague library voters approved the budget 167-24.  The budget for the coming year is $37,581 less than this year at $3.9 million.

Incumbent Trustee Edward Mutchnick won reelection of a five-year term. He was unopposed. Joanne Kirschner, who was appointed in January won election, defeating her opponent Pat Robinson.

•In Deer Park, results were not available.

•Farmingdale library voters approved a $3.93 million budget 250 to 47. The new spending plan was within the New York State tax cap.

 Thomas Arrangio was reelected to the library board with 264 votes.

•Lindenhurst library voters approved their budget 130 to 20. The budget was within the tax cap

No one filed petitions to run for the board. Annette DeLuca won the open seat in a write in campaign.

•North Babylon library voters approved their budget 133, to 28 and Tory Hare, who ran unopposed for the board won reelection.

The new spending plan, which was within the New York state tax cap, will increase library taxes $4.78 a year on a home assessed at $3,500.

•In West Babylon, voters approved their library budget 90 to 12 and Thomas Weinschenk won reelection to the board.

The tax rate for library services will go from $10.68 to $10.84 per $100 of assessed value.

•West Islip library voters approved their budget 300 to 43 and Marilyn Gutierrez and Louise Sokolowski were elected Library Trustees.

The budget met the guidelines for the New York State tax cap.
