Republic Airport holding meeting on development plans

Republic Airport will be holding a public meeting Thur., April 6 to continue discussions about the development of “underutilized” parcels at eh airport for aviation uses. The proposed construction includes hangars, a fixed-base operator (FBO) building, additional aircraft ramp space, aircraft tie-downs and associate vehicle parking. The NYSDOT anticipates a private investment in the development of $27 million. Materials regarding the project can be obtained online at www.republicairport.net.

Members of the Woodland Civic Association have been monitoring the project but said following a RAC meeting March 2, that the public has not been adequately informed about the specifics of the proposal.

“Some of these parcels were initially designed as non-aviation use or  aviation compatible, but the Request for Proposals says that all five are to be developed for aviation,” said Nancy Schliwka, of the civic association. “We are concerned because we did not hear about the plans until March 2 and every time we ask what is going on, we are told that they (RAC officials) don’t know.”

Schliwka is urging the public to attend the meeting and become informed on the issue.

The meeting will be held at Molloy College Suffolk Center, Atrium Room, 7180 Republic Airport, Farmingdale, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Comments on the project can be made orally at the meeting or in writing no later than April 20, 2017 as follows: Email-director@republicairport.net. Mail: airport Director, 7150 Republic Airport, Room 216, East Farmingdale NY 11735, c/o Republic Parcels Comments.
