Babylon News & Muse

As I write this, the wind is howling and the rain pouring down with the first nor'easter of 2017. Lucky for most of us, we are snug in our homes and most of us are worried only about the possibility of losing power.

I can’t help but worry about the residents living near the Bay, however. The weather reports tell us to expect flooding in those areas and so many of the residents near the Bay have already had to fight the elements, tooth and nail. I am grateful on their behalf that the full moon was a week ago, but pray they will not suffer too much damage from this.

•This year is the 50th anniversary of my graduation from Babylon High. I am part of the Reunion Committee (as I have been since the first reunion in 1977). It seems incredible that we could have graduated so long ago. We have decided to hold the reunion on the weekend of Aug. 11 and 12. In an effort to keep costs low, we will have a gathering on Friday night at a local pub. On Saturday, we will have a tour of the High School and later a barbecue at the Village Pool. At this point, the biggest task is to gather addresses for all our classmates.

While we have a pretty good list at this point, I am going to list the names of people with whom we have had no recent contact.

We are looking for the following people: Betsey Albin Closson, Linda Brown, Judy Brown Hessler, Joe Brundin, Lynda Capobianco, MaryAnn Casalina, Beth Corwin, Peter Dannemiller, Paul Devlin, Tom Donohue, Marybeth Hotchkiss Kennedy, Brian Isaacs, Robert Johnson, Lynne Kelly Rosenberg, Betty Kinbacher, Dave King, Arlene Knecht Hallock, Linda Larned Rossetti, Gail Lehtonen, Jessica Leonard, Michele Leone Hunt, Valerie Lindley, Robert Longenecker, Maureen Mackesy Murrin, Beth McGuire, Steve Mellini, Cathy Murphy Saccaro, Charles Neet, Laura Nelson, Anna Ortis, Vivian Palmer, Bill Peters, James Reuter, Paul Roman, Pat Sanders Bunch, Nancy Seifert, Greg Thompson, Barbara Tonkin, Anita Truchess, Linda Wischerth Makowsky and Stephen Voorhies. One source that has been a great help is Facebook, but usually the best way to find missing members of the class is to publish their names in the local paper.

Should you know where we can contact any of the people listed above, please call 631-587-0335, or contact me in care of The Beacon, 65 Deer Park Ave., Babylon 11702 or via the paper’s email: acjnews@rcn.com.

Even if you don’t know contact information for a classmate but know a family member or a close friend, please call the number given. Thank you.

•Ironically, the Babylon High School Class of 1972 is also holding a reunion this summer and I will probably list a similar group for them in the near future.

•Vinny, a longtime employee/manager of Lo-Man’s Outdoor Store is retiring. He is the employee I most associate with Lo- Man’s and he will be missed by many of us. He was always cheerful and helpful, and I wish him well.

Happy birthday to Lindsay Henry, Donna Jeansonne, Vicki Jauron, and especially to Gus Fishel!
