BSD to host community meet on sex offender laws

Informational panel to discuss ways of protecting children

Approximately 300 Babylon community members will pack into the cafeteria at Babylon Elementary School to learn about current sex offender laws and how to safeguard their children from harm during an informational panel discussion on the issue.

The event will be held Wed., Oct. 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The school is at 171 Ralph Ave., Babylon.

 The presentation will include an overview of the Sex Offender Registration Act, sex offender management services, victim support services, child sexual abuse and sexting prevention, and cyber safety programs. Elected state and local officials will be on hand to address a current petition to implement stricter laws for sex offenders.  

 Babylon School Superintendent Linda J. Rozzi, Laura A. Ahearn, executive director of the Parents for Megan’s Law Crime Unit, and local and state elected officials will be in attendance.
