The Suffolk County Police Department’s First Precinct and other local fire and law enforcement agencies report the following incidents:


Copiague: Suffolk County Police today arrested a homeless man for attempting to rob a Copiague bank.

The arrest was made Fri.,

Aug. 26 at 2:45 p.m. and police gave this account:

A man, later identified as John Phillips, 56, entered Bank of America, at 1283 Sunrise Highway and handed a teller a note demanding cash. The teller did not comply, and the man fled. First Precinct Police Officers Michael Gorey and Steven Squires responded and located the man a short time later. Major Case Unit detectives charged Phillips, 56, with Attempted Robbery 3rd Degree. Phillips was held overnight at the First Precinct was arraigned tomorrow at First District Court in Central Islip.

Babylon: A 2015 Ford parked at the Babylon Long Island Railroad station lot was vandalized Aug. 26 when someone smashed the driver’s side window. The incident took place sometime before 8:30 a.m.


DWI: The following persons have been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated or impaired: Pietro Scalamandre, 29, of 8 Magnolia Dr., Commack; Robert Spalma 28, of 49 McKinley Ave., Franklin Square; Stephanie Arias, 28, of 237 Sheffield Ave., West Babylon;

Grand Larceny: Travis Lovett, 23, of 187 Tell Ave., Deer Park;

Petit Larceny: Brian Steele, 35, of 2868 Calvin Rd., Oceanside; James Forster, 68, of 248 Southern Blvd., Nesconset; Kelly Bruckner, 32, of 45 Reiner St., Freeport.

The charges against those arrested are allegations, and the cases are still pending in the courts. Individuals charged and whose names appear in this column may submit documentation to us at a later date that the charges have been dismissed or that they have been found innocent and we will include that information in this space in a timely manner.
