Two Babylon Village residents charged with assaulting cop

Stephen ViscontiStephen ViscontiPamela ViscontiPamela ViscontiSuffolk County Police arrested two people after they assaulted a police officer in Babylon last night. Police gave this account:

A First Precinct patrol sergeant and police officer responded to a 911 call of a man waving a shovel at people outside of 19 Whalers Cove at approximately 9:25 p.m. The officer and sergeant began to interview the man, Stephen Visconti, who was seated on the front patio of the home. During the conversation, the man’s wife, Pamela, exited the home and stood between the officer and her husband.

While the sergeant was attempting to remove Pamela from the patio, Stephen raised his arm, threatening to throw a coffee mug at the officer. The officer deployed her Taser, striking Stephen. Stephen was able to remove the darts from his body, then threw the mug toward the officer’s head.

During the sergeant’s attempt to remove Pamela from the situation, both the sergeant and Pamela fell to the ground. Pamela was able to take possession of a police baton and struck the female officer in the forehead. Stephen then raised a long-handle shovel above his head, threatening to strike the female officer, and the sergeant pushed Stephen away from the officer.

Stephen and Pamela then went inside the home, however, exited a short time later and were arrested.

Pamela Visconti, 58, was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, and Stephen Visconti, 57, was charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree and Menacing 2nd Degree.

Both will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.
