Homeless man charged with attempted bank robbery

Suffolk County Police today arrested a homeless man for attempting to rob a Copiague bank. The arrest was made Fri., Aug, 26 at 2:45 p.m. and police gave this account: 

A man, later identified as John Phillips, 56, entered Bank of America, at 1283 Sunrise Highway and handed a teller a note demanding cash. The teller did not comply, and the man fled.

 First Precinct Police Officers Michael Gorey and Steven Squires responded and located the man a short time later.

 Major Case Unit detectives charged Phillips, 56, with Attempted Robbery 3rd Degree.

 Phillips will be held overnight at the First Precinct was arraigned tomorrow at First District Court in Central Islip.
