Mosquito spraying set for tomorrow

The S.C. Department of Public Works Division of Vector Control announced that, weather permitting; it will be conducting ground spraying, ultra low volume aerosol in Amityville and Copiague tomorrow, Aug. 13.

The spraying with the pesticide Anvil, will be done between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. on all streets South of Montauk Highway from South Ketcham Avenue east to Tanner Park and Baylawn Avenue.

In addition, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. that day spraying will take place in West Gilgo Beach, all streets.

For more information call Vector Control at 631-852-4270 or the spray information hotline at 631-852-4939.

Although your chances of experiencing any health effects from spraying are low, there are some common sense steps suggested by the county: Children and pregnant women should take care to avoid exposure when practical. If possible, remain inside or avoid the area whenever spraying takes place and for about 30 minutes after spraying. Residents are advised to close doors and windows and vents for air-conditioning units.

If you come into direct contact with the pesticide spray, protect your eyes and rinse them with water.

Residents are also advised to pick homegrown fruits and vegetables they expect to eat soon after spraying. Rinse all homegrown fruits and vegetables and bring pet food and water dishes inside and cover ornamental fishponds during the spray period to avoid direct exposure.
