Copiague Library Board candidate pulls out of race

By law, Library board reopens petition process until 5 p.m. tomorrow

Copiague Library officials announced today that one of the two candidates running for office withdrew her name from the race. That candidate will have her name removed from the ballot. She was running against incumbent Mary Haughey, who is still seeking reelection.

According to the law, the library has reopened the period for filing nomination petitions for anyone who may want to challenge Haughey. Those petitions are due at the Office of the District Clerk, 2650 Great Neck Rd., Copiague, no later than 5 p.m.  tomorrow, Tues., March 29.

The district is also reprinting the ballots after the 5 p.m. deadline Tuesday and is “calling back” the absentee ballots that went out with Cain’s name on them.

“We will be sending out new absentee ballots on Wednesday after the deadline for filing petitions expires on Tuesday,” said District Clerk Mary Ellen Ruppert.
