Babylon Baseball coach removed

School board makes decision at packed meeting

Following a meeting that lasted about five minutes, members of the Babylon Board of Education voted to replace the current varsity baseball coach, Anthony Sparacio, with Victor Manzella, a North Babylon teacher.  The motion occurred at a special board meeting held February 29.

Sparacio was removed from his position as the varsity baseball coach because the district claims he violated its policy on fund raising when he started an online fundraiser in January through the site “gofundme.”

After the meeting, Sparacio addressed attendees.

“I did something that was not right. For that I deserve consequences," he said.  "I did something wrong, not maliciously behind anyone’s back, to raise some funds for our team.”

Sparacio was surrounded by members of the current varsity baseball team, as well as past members.  They were all there in support of this coach.
