Islip Town honors advocate for disease awareness

Members of the Islip Town Board recently honored Heather McNamara, of Islip Terrace, for her dedication to promoting awareness of life-threatening diseases. McNamara was forced to undergo a risky surgery at a young age to prevent a tumor from ending her life. During the 23-hour surgery doctors had to remove six of her organs. She was the first child in the world to undergo such a procedure.
