Long Islanders can now receive automatic email alerts whenever a registered sex offender moves into a particular zip code, according to Assemblyman Bob Sweeney. The alerts, authorized by state legislation last year are part of the existing NY-ALERT system, though which New Yorkers can receive alerts on everything from national disasters to traffic congestion.
