Scholars in the News

•Brian M. Carley, of Babylon, was named top the dean’s list at Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York for the spring semester. He is a member of the class of 2011 and majoring in history/adolescent education.

•Paige T. Engeldrum, of West Islip, began studies as a first- year student at Hamilton College, Clinton, New York. She is the daughter of Paula and John Engeldrum.

•Kaur Bauer, of North Babylon, began studies at Alfred State College, Alfred, New York.

•Christina E. Hedley, of Lindenhurst, received a bachelor of science in criminal justice and a bachelor of science in legal studies from the University of New Haven in August.

•The following students were admitted to Bryant University, Smithfield, Rhode Island: Jennifer Jacob of Deer Park, Nathaniel Larson of West Islip and Matthew Los Kamp and Matthew Pryzby of Babylon.

•Megan Quarant, of North Babylon was honored as a College Scholar at Elizabethtown Çollege in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.

•Holy Trinity High School announced its honor rolls for the first academic quarter of the 2009/2010 school year. Named to the “A” honor roll are Babylon residents Jeannine Florio and Juliaanne Florio; Lindenhurst residents Lauren Giunta and Rebecca Meyers and from West Babylon are Najmie Alice, Breanna Amorde, Mary Ayers, Ava Bonavita and Samantha Novak. Named to the “B” honor roll are Babylon resident Teresa Austin and Lindenhurst residents Giancarlo Casella, Meaghan Lynch and Melissa Wasiak.

•Kristina M. Bornholdt, of West Islip, a business administration major, has been named to the Senior Honor Society at York College of Pennsylvania.

•Named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at Quinnipiac University, Hamden, Connecticut are the following local residents: From Babylon are James Mahr and Melissa Wood; from West Babylon is Helena Adams; from North Babylon are Susan Day, Richard Delle Bovi, Eric Gruenfelder, Danielle Musella and Anna Raso; from West Islip are Alaina Caliendo, Kristen DiLeo, Jillian Laufer and Joseph Wood; from Deer Park are Brittany Davis and Jessica Szewczuk and from Wheatley Heights is Ekua Croffie.

•Bill Rainford, of West Islip, has been admitted to the North Bennet Street School in Boston, Massachusetts, where he has begun a two-year training program in preservation carpentry. He is a 1999 graduate of West Islip Senior High School.

•The following local residents were named to the dean’s list at the University of New Haven, West Haven, Connecticut, for the fall 2009 semester: Theyare Justin Frankel of West Babylon, Lindsay Giovan of West Islip and Brianne Stoehr of Babylon.

•Thefollowing West Islip residents graduated from York College of Pennsylvania, York, Pennsylvania: Sean Carrig, Daniel Dalvano, Kristen Lehmann, Ryan Schab, Kevin Sposito, Megan Teufel and Melissa Kranis.

•Pace University, with locations in New York City and Pleasantville, has admitted the following local residents: From Babylon is Chelsea Shea; from West Babylon are Ossi Askew, Gabrielle Degaetano, Jasmin Guerrero and Anita Wong; from North Babylon is Thomas Earl; from Deer Park are Sam Alam, Channell Campbell, Anna Mace and James Namkung; from Lindenhurst are Nicole Alvino, Stephen Doerrer and Brian Tibball; from West Islip are Stephanie Buscemi, Michaelene Desena and Brianna Weitzman and from Wheatley Heights are Joanna Gonzalez and Arielle Maggipinto.

•The following students from Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, spent the fall 2009 semester studying abroad. Matthew Griffo of Babylon studied in Denmark, Monica Palmiotto of Babylon studied in Italy and Brooke Engeldrum of West Islip studied in the United Kingdom.

•Named to the dean’s list at Tufts University, Medford/ Somerville, Massachusetts, for the fall 2009 semester is Nicole Krieg of West Babylon.

•Zachary Kohler, of Babylon, a senior at West Babylon High School, has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship to attend Alfred State College.

•Michael John Hults, of Babylon, received a bachelor of science on Dec. 19, 2009 from Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla, Missouri.

•Named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at the School of Management at Binghamton University, State of New York are the following local residents: From West Babylon is Allison B. Gottlieb; from Deer Park are Eric Thomas Malhado, Sara Julie Hope Parrish and Andrea Pop and from West Islip is Jeffrey S. Gregory.

•Elizabeth Spiller, of Babylon, was named to the honors list for a GPA of 3.5 or more at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, New Jersey for the fall 2009 semester.

•Jovaun Snjay Martin, of North Babylon, was named to the dean’s list at Lincoln University of Missouri, Jefferson City, Missouri.

•Deanna M. DeMarchis of North Babylon and Victoria C. Lospinuso of West Islip were named to the dean’s list at eastern New England College, Springfield, Massachusetts for the fall 2009 semester.

•Christopher D’Italia, of Deer Park, was awarded an alumni scholarship to attend Alfred State College, Alfred, New York where he intends to enroll in the electromechanical engineering technology program.

•The State University of New York College at Cortland has announced its president’s list for a GPA of 3.7 or more and its dean’s list for 3.3 or more. Named to the president’s list are Carmine Demeri, Keith Lusby and Cassandra Szewczuk of West Babylon and Jenna Evarts of West Islip. Jessica Albrecht, of Babylon, received a master’s degree.

•Cecila Beth Galbraith, of Babylon, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at the State University of New York College at Cortland where she is majoring in inclusive special education with a minor in psychology of the exceptional child. She is the daughter of David and Nancy Galbraith and a 2007 graduate of Babylon High School.
