Deer Park pre-k students celebrate Festival of Lights
Shown in the photo, Deer Park pre-kindergarten students participate in their holiday lesson, adding a candle for each day of Hanukkah and counting the number of lights on the menorah.
Deer Park’s Abraham Lincoln prekindergarten students experienced the diversity of the holiday season by participating in traditional Hanukkah activities. Students helped teachers cook potato latkes and placed wooden candles in a menorah. Identifying the ingredients needed to prepare latkes, students learned how food is transformed from a solid to a liquid (through cutting, mixing and blending) and watched the conversion of ingredients back to a solid when the latkes were poured into a pan and cooked on a stove. After enjoying their latkes, the children sang a special Hanukkah song, counting the number of candles on the menorah.
