Town of Islip to celebrate Islip History month in November
Islip Town Supv. Phil Nolan recently joined with Town Historian Robert Finnegan in announcing that November has been designated Town of Islip History Month. The resolution, passed at a Oct. 27 Town Board meeting, stated, “Whereas, in recognition of those individuals and organizations that have made a significantcontribution to the preservation, planning, architectural design and restoration, historical research, archiving, collecting, and publishing, the month of November will be established as the Town of Islip’s History Month.” “Thisis a great opportunity for residents to learn more about the history of our community, as well as to recognize residents who have dedicated their time and efforts to preserving and protecting Islip’s rich history,” said Supervisor Nolan. To cap off the month-long celebration of Islip History, an awards night will be held at Town Hall on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. to present the first annual “Supervisors’ Awards” to individuals who have made a significant contribution in preserving the history of the Town of Islip. In addition, the Town will join with local historical societies to put together an exhibition of historical items that will be on display in Town Hall.
