West Islip, Good Samaritan employee wins Bernstein Award
     Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center recently presented Mary Spillane with its prestigious Bernstein Award. Theaward was established in honor of the late Marvin Bernstein, MD, to rec­ognize Good Samaritan employees who embody the same virtues Dr. Bernstein personified, such as humanitarianism, compassion and empathy.

Deer Park Twirling Champion recognized by Town Board
     Deer Park resident Julia Boss had a very exciting twirling season. First she was named the 2009 New York State 11-year-old Solo and Dance Twirl Champion as well as the Juvenile 2 Baton Champion. She then travelled to Tucson, Arizona in July for the National Championships, where she captured the 11-year-old USTA National Strut and 2 Baton Titles.

Mike Greene Great Guy Foundation Family Fun Day Volleyball Tournament
     The Mike Greene Great Guy Foundation recently brought friends, families and neighbors together at its annual Family Fun Day Fundraiser held in Babylon Village. Hundreds participated in a fun-filled day of events including a volleyball tournament, egg toss, sack race, dunk tank, watermelon, pie and hot dog eating contests and more.

Music Lover's Club meeting and Free Concert November 23
     Thethird meeting of the 84th year of the Music Lover’s Club will be held Mon., Nov. 23, 1 p.m. A free concert will follow at 2 p.m. The meeting will be held at the United Methodist Church, 350 Main St., Islip. Fire Island Lighthouse events
      The Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society has scheduled two events in the near future. On Sat., Nov. 28, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. you can help to decorate the holiday tree. Bring a handmade ornament relating to the sea, nature or the lighthouse to hang on the tree. There will be free hot chocolate and cookies.

Our Lady of Assumption to host annual parade to be held December 5
     Our Lady of the Assumption, Knights of Columbus Council #9267 in Copiague is hosting its 19th annual parade Sat., Dec. 5, 1 p.m. The parade route begins at Great Neck Rd. and Montauk Highway north to the Church auditorium on Dante Avenue. A maximum of 250 raffle tickets at $20 each will be sold. First prize is $1,000 with $500 as second prize.
