Thechain is closing restaurants around the country for a good cause as the company feeds those most in need. For one lunch shift, selected restaurants are closed to the public but open to feed hungry residents from local shelters. For more information, check the website www.from hungertohope.com. •Have you been watching the progress at the Post OfficeCafé? They’ve basically gutted what was Peter’s Pasta and rebuilt it. They’ve hit a couple of snags, but hope to be open in a few weeks. Thenew area will handle parties and dining in a handsome new setting. •Mark your calendars! A special presentation regarding the Village Fountain, previously mentioned in this column, will be made at Village Hall on Monday, November 9th at 8:00 p.m. The presentation, sponsored by the Pilot Club of Babylon, will be made by Dr. Chris Proto and is open to the public.

•More calendar notes: Daylight Savings will end on Sunday, November 1st at 2:00 a.m. It seems to make so much more sense to keep it through Halloween Night which this year happens to fall on a Saturday. DON’T FORGET TO CHANGE THE BATTERIES IN YOUR SMOKE ALARMS TOO! Remember October is Fire Safety Month.

•Speaking of Fire Safety, the Babylon Fire Department did a great job on Sunday October 4th, with their open house. Scores of interested children (and equally fascinated adults) examined the trucks and the tools while firemen explained their usage. Even more interesting were the demonstrations, especially those that showed the use of the Hurst tool, commonly called the Jaws of Life because the tool can help the firemen rescue people trapped inside a damaged vehicle by cutting through the metal to remove doors and roofs. There are few people in this village that do not recognize the contributions that these firemen make to our community. Please keep that in mind when they begin their annual Fund Drive!
