•There is to be a gala fundraiser on July 29th to benefit the National Kidney Registry which has its main officehere in Babylon on Fire Island Avenue. This organization currently has 1100 donors registered. These are people who are willing to donate a kidney to anyone who needs it and is a biological match. In the past 13 months, the Registry has arranged more than 46 matches. Recently the Registry was responsible for a multiple transplant. In this type of transplant, the match is made between John Doe and Jane Smith. Each of these people has family willing to donate a kidney but there is no match between Jane and her brother or between John and his sister. However, John's sister is a match for Jane, and Jane's brother matches John. Everyone is flown into the same city and the surgeries take place there. In this recent match there were actually three pairs matched. The fund-raiser will take place at Chateau La Mer in Lindenhurst on July 29th from 6:30 until 10:00 p.m. Tickets cost $69 each. Hosting the party are Jackie and Jim Brucia. You may contact the Registry for tickets at 800-936-1627. If you would be willing to donate a kidney, or know someone who needs one, you can reach them at the same number.
