With the start of the summer season, the West Islip Fire Department wish to remind pool owners of some safety requirements.

All swimming pools must have pool alarms. Every swimming pool that is installed or modified after Dec. 14, 2006 must be equipped with an approved pool alarm. In addition, pool barriers (fences) are required. The barrier must completely surround the swimming pool and must obstruct access to the swimming pool entrapment protection systems—a systems designed to protect swimmers from being trapped in pool drains and filters.
