Gratitude for response to a call for help

Dear Editor:

I recently wrote the following to the Chief of the Babylon Village Fire Department.

I felt compelled to inform him of the experience I had with an emergency on Friday evening May 15, 2009.

I am a nurse for many years and was experiencing chest pain and pressure at my home and it was progressively getting worse. My blood pressure was 177/117. I told my husband to call rescue and he explained what was happening. He also explained my life threatening allergy to LATEX. Your team arrived and were all very professional and calm. I was put at ease immediately knowing that they were knowledgeable and competent.

I was put into the ambulance and stabilized by your team of volunteers. I do not recall the names of everyone involved but they were all superb and did the right thing. I was given Nitroglycerin three times and three baby aspirin before the pain subsided. When I arrived at Good Samaritan Hospital I was stabilized thanks to the efforts of the Babylon Fire Rescue team that attended to me. Please extend my sincere gratitude to the volunteers who helped me that night.

The Village of Babylon is very lucky to have such trained and experienced volunteers responding to the needs of the community. Knowing that the person responding to your emergency is so trained and competent is very important. I am enclosing my annual donation, more than I usually donate due to the circumstances this year. I hope the rest of Babylon will all keep this in mind for the annual fund-raising by the Babylon Village Fire Dept.
