Babylon Memorial Grade School remembering those who served
Shown in the photos, Babylon Memorial Grade School student council members performed in an educational play about our nation's history. In honor of the Memorial Day holiday, students at Babylon Grade School paused to celebrate the lives of those who have served and continue to serve their country. With the help of the building's two student council organizations, the student body learned the history behind the nation's flag, reasons for saying the Pledge of Allegiance, the symbol of America, and that Uncle Sam was created out of the U and S in United States.
"The key word in this holiday is memory," stated Principal Eric Freidman. "On Memorial Day we dedicate part of our memories to honor and celebrate our veterans and those that have served to protect our freedom."
In addition to the educational play coordinated by the student councils, the school's brass ensemble performed America, the chorus sung You're a Grand Old Flag, and band teacher Don Meier played an emotional rendition of Taps, as the building's flag was raised to half-mast.
