MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES AT LI NATIONAL CEMETERY
2009-06-18 / People/Social
A moving service to honor those veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of their country was held at Long Island National Cemetery at Farmingdale on Memorial Day. The color guard for the Babylon American Legion Post passed in review and Taps were sounded by Ken Cadieux, a member of the Nassau County American Legion. William E. Rhoades, director of the Long Island National Cemetery spoke at the event and welcomed veterans and their families. He also escorted Dorothy Oxendine, past president of the Gold Star Mothers in the parade. Wreaths were placed and every gravestone was decorated with an American flag, placed there by dozens of volunteers the day before the event.
