Babylon firefighters and rescue respond to motor vehicle incidents
Shown in top photo is one car accident that occured May 29th. Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that injured five people on Sat., May 30. The accident occurred at approximately 8:25 a.m., in front of 448 West Montauk Hwy., Babylon Village. An eye witness told detectives that he was driving westbound in the left lane on West Montauk Highway behind a 1995 Pontiac when the Pontiac swerved to the left, into oncoming traffic, and struck a 2000 Ford passenger van head-on.
The driver of the Pontiac, William Murphy, 39, of 424 Kansas St., Lindenhurst, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.
Theoperator of the passenger van, Manfredo Garcia Fernandez, 35, of 34 Ingraham St., Hempstead, and three of his passengers, were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing and both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or the First Squad at 631-852-8178.

On Fri., May 29, at approximately 8:45 a.m. a one-car accident occurred at the corner of North Railroad and Litchfield avenues. Babylon Fire Department volunteers responded with two engines, one heavy rescue and an ambulance. Also at the scene were Suffolk County Police and LIPA employees who handled down power lines.
"Firefighters secured the area and fortunately no one was injured," said Rich Steinhauer, a Babylon Fire Department spokesman.
The department was also routed out when a taxi caught fire in front of the Babylon firehouse.
