Richard Nathan, incoming Superintendent of the Lindenhurst School District. Richard Nathan, incoming Superintendent of the Lindenhurst School District. After 13 years serving the Lindenhurst school district, Richard Nathan has been appointed the district's new superintendent. He replaces Superintendent Neil Lederer, who is retiring in June.

Previously, Nathan served as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and then the Deputy Superintendent.

"We chose Mr. Nathan because of his past experience with the district, his understanding of the challenges that our district faces, and his determination to continue increasing the levels of academic achievement for all students," said Board President Edward Murphy Jr.

Nathan has encouraged or facilitated many of the instructional programs in the Lindenhurst schools such as Celebration of the Arts (a day where students showcase their creative sides with artwork and performances), Family Math Night, and Saturday Morning Extra Help.

"I am proud of what I have done and I look forward to the future," Nathan said. He points out fondly that the graduating students this year were in kindergarten when he started in the district. "I have seen a full cycle," he said.

He looks forward to being the "point person" for this "very large operation," he said. Superintendent of schools serves as the captain of a very large ship that includes not only being responsible for the instructional welfare of the students but also school facilities, finances, communication with the public as well as staff and

the board, public relations and ultimately the health and safety of the children, explained Nathan. He has been in education for 41 years, he said. Prior to coming to Lindenhurst, he ser ved as Director of Curriculum and Pupil Personnel Services for the Bellmore-Merrick School District and the district math chairperson; in Bayside High School, he served as a math teacher and assistant principal. Nathan earned his certificate of administration and supervision from Hofstra University, his Master's from New York University and his Bachelor of Science from SUNY Stony Brook. "Thisis a culmination of a long career… And I plan to

stay in Lindenhurst for a long time; this is not a short term assignment," said Nathan.

Nathan will replace Neil Lederer who has served as superintendent of schools since 2002, and worked in the district for 19 years before that as a teacher, chairperson of the science department, principal at the middle school and high school.

"I will strive for continued excellence in serving the Lindenhurst school district as superintendent," announced Nathan. "I want to thank everyone for their support."
