Babylon Junior-Senior High School art teacher and advisor for the school's Art Honor Society chapter, senior high art club, and coadvisor for the senior high student council Cheryl Schweider has been named the New York State Art Teachers' Association Regional Art Teacher of the Year. Schweider received the award during the NYSATA annual conference and is now running to become the New York State Art Teacher of the Year. Schweider has been a member of NYSATA for eight years. She is also a member of the Long Island Art Teachers' Association and is active in both organizations. Additionally, she is one of the region's site coordinators for the New York State Portfolio Review, which gives art students in grades four to 12 a chance to have their portfolios critiqued and rated by art educators other than their teachers.
