Town of Islip is recipient of 2009 U.S. Environmental Quality Award

Supv. Phil Nolan and Councilman John Edwards have announced that Islip Town is the recipient of the 2009 United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Environmental Quality Award. This is the highest honor that can be bestowed to an entity for "protecting and enhancing environmental quality in our region," according to a spokesperson for the agency.

An awards ceremony was held at EPA headquarters in New York City. Supv. Nolan and Councilman Edwards attended the awards ceremony, along with the band OAR, who also won an environmental award.

Supv. Nolan said, "It is an honor to accept this award from the EPA. In Islip Town, we will continue to fulfill our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint."

According to Councilman Edwards, "TheEPA granting the Town an Environmental Quality Award is a true honor and reaffirms the positive steps we are taking to improve our environment and become more energy efficient."
