Longtime Babylon Village resident and dedicated Babylon community member David W. Lincoln died on March 26, 2009. He served the Village in many capacities over the years and was a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Lincoln was a Babylon Lion for more than 50 years, a former board member of Babylon Village Youth Project, and taught sailing and ran a Babylon Village business. He lived on Lighthouse Road in Babylon Village for 50 years.

"Dave served the Lions for 50 years and his impact was evident by the huge turnout at his funeral," said Babylon Lion president and longtime friend Ed McCarthy. "Dave was much more than secretary

of our club, he was our conscience, our guide, and a valued counsel to every board and committee he served. His experience made us all better Lions and helped make Babylon a great club. It is now our duty to carry on, as Dave would have expected."

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Lincoln joined the National Guard and served in the U.S. Army as counter intelligence during World War II. In Washington D.C., he worked in the fingerprint department of the FBI and met then-Director J. Edgar Hoover. He also worked for U.S. Customs.

Although he gradated from Fordham University with a degree in law, he spent his life a private investigator with his own company Doran Claims, first in Mineola and later in Babylon Village, until the late 1990s. According to his daughter, Laurie, he taught his daughters how to clam and loved sailing and boating. In fact, he taught celestial navigation in the Captree Power Squadron. In addition to his daughter Laurie and her husband Richard Heathcote of Babylon Village, Mr. Lincoln also leaves behind his other daughter, Dede Borruso and her husband Bill of Babylon Village and his grandchildren, Trevor, Nariko and Vida who called him "Guy-guy." He was predeceased by his wife, Joan in 1980. He reposed at the Lang-Tobia-DiPalma Funeral Home in Babylon on March 28, 2009. A Lion's Club service and religious services were held there.
