•Debbie and Lee Bliss are delighted to announce the engagement of their daughter Melissa Bliss, Esq. to Steve Hanrahan, shown in the photo, son of Peg and Gene Hanrahan of North Babylon. The bride is a graduate of Babylon High School and Touro Law School and is an Assistant District Attorney for SuffolkCounty. The groom is an operating engineer. The couple plans to wed in 2010 and hope to live in Babylon Village.

•Speaking of Debbie Bliss, she celeberated her birthday on April 14, a date shared by family friend Jim Peck. Best wishes to both and also to Monica Dawson, who celebrated her special day on April 18.

•Last Saturday was such a beautiful day that a local group known as the Dining Divas chose to eat at The Dockside Café in West Babylon, where they enjoyed a lovely view of the water, good food, and good company. •This week the Bradford Pears along Main Street have flowered, transforming the thoroughfare into a fragrant bower of white blossoms. These trees were selected and planted by the Babylon

Beautification Society for their beauty and ability to withstand the pollution caused by passing cars. •In another week or so we'll have the blossoming of the cherry trees around Argyle Lake. Ed Wolfe, late editor of The Beacon, was instrumental in the Beautification Society's selection of these cherry trees to surround the lake. Thoughts of Ed come to mind whenever I see those lovely pink blossoms.

•Isabel Gallagher hosted her cousins, Ann and Mike Nolan of Rockland, Maryland this past Sunday. The hot, sunny weather was perfect for a barbecue attended by Isabel, the Nolans

and Isabel's children, Rob, Mary, Laura and Isabel and Dick Freeman.
