Four-year-old preschool scholarships available

Just Kids, located at the Kellum Street School, is offering scholarships for regular education children residing within the Lindenhurst School District to at­tend their half-day Jump Start preschool program be­ginning September 2009. Classes will meet twice daily: 8:30 to 11 a.m. (morning session) or 12 to 2:30 p.m. (afternoon session). Parents must provide transporta­tion.

There will be 40 scholarships offered for children who are three years old by Dec. 1, 2009 and there are 66 scholarships for children who are four years old by Dec. 1, 2009. Each class will consist of 18 students: nine regular education and nine special education students. One regular education teacher and one special education teacher will co-teach classes, with an aide in each class­room. The program utilizes the Creative Curriculum which emphasizes academic readiness skills and social skills. Students entering the program in September 2009 must reach the age of three (3) by Dec. 1, 2009. Par­ents must provide birth certificate, proof of residency, and all students need a physical exam prior to begin­ning the program. A lottery will be held to select the 40 students to be offered scholarships. Students who are currently receiving special education services are ineligible for the program.
