Frank Kelly, West Islip resident and former Amityville businessman
Longtime West Islip resident and Amityville business owner Frank Kelly died on March 26, 2009 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was 91.
Born in Brooklyn on Feb. 27, 1918, he served in the 101st Calvary Division in the U.S. Army during World War II. After graduating from Brooklyn College, he was employed as assistant chief underwriter for the Federal Housing Administration in New York City.
He had lived on Wagstaff Lane, then Montauk Highway, in West Islip for 25 years and was an active parishioner of St. Joseph's of Babylon. From 1956 to 1981 he ran Frank B. Kelly Associates, a mortgage and real estate brokerage firm based in Amityville. In 1981 he retired to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Mr. Kelly was a longtime member of the Long Island Yacht Club and an avid Quarter Horse enthusiast who competed in many horse shows around the tri-state area. He and his wife Anita were longtime volunteers who helped raise funds for Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. One such successful fundraiser was a charity horse show held on the hospital grounds that raised thousands of dollars.
He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Anita (Durrett) Kelly and his children: Connie, Donna, Monty and Lorene. Six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren also survive him.
A private family service was held in Tulsa, Oklahoma followed by private cremation.
