Pearl Holzberg, longtime Babylon resident and selfless volunteer
Longtime Babylon resident Pearl Holzberg died March 20, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York. She was 82 and spent her life putting others before herself.
"She was just the nicest person and did everything for everyone else," said her daughter, Roni Tevere of Flemington, New Jersey, who added that her mom made every holiday special for her family. "She was always the one giving someone a ride or checking in on home-bound neighbors. She was selfless."
She was born July 13, 1926 in New York City and grew up in Saratoga Springs, New York. For more than 50 years she lived on Gwynn Street in Babylon.
Mrs. Holzberg had acted as past local president of the Suffolk Chapter of Hadassah volunteers and was a longtime active member of Congregation Beth Shalom in Babylon. When her children were younger, she had been involved with Little League and Girl Scouts.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Holzberg also leaves behind her husband of almost 60 years, Alvin, and her other children: Evan of Lawrenceville, New Jersey and Bryan of Port Washington. Her son-in-law Vincent of Flemington, New Jersey; and her grandchildren, Daniel, Mollie, Erica and Rachel also survive her.
Mrs. Holzberg reposed at the I.J. Morris Funeral Home in Dix Hills on March 23, 2009. Interment followed at New Montefiore Cemetery in Lindenhurst.
