Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan, shown back, third from left, and the Islip Town Board recently hosted a Black History Celebration at the Brentwood Senior Center, where they honored several community members and the NAACP Islip Town Branch, which is currently celebrating the NAACP's 100th anniversary. This year's honorees are Minister Frances Bell, Carl Fraser, Dr. Shirley Pippins, Martin Boyce, Alonzo Jacobs, Esq. and Detective Sergeant Robert Reecks. Attendees enjoyed poetry readings, as well as a musical performance from the Michael Jazz Trio.
