Library budget votes and trustee races up

Thefollowing is a breakdown of upcoming library budget votes and Trustee elections. The votes are scheduled for Tues. April 14.

Babylon

TheLibrary vote in Babylon is from noon to 9 p.m., in the library. The proposed budget calls for a 1.19 percent increase in spending from $1.76 million to $1.78 million. The tax rate is going from $9.19 per $100 to $9.31, a 1.3 percent or 12-cent increase.

A home assessed at $3,500 in Babylon will pay $325.85 a year for library services under the proposed spending plan.

Two candidates are running for one seat on the board. Incumbent Mary Gallagher faces Gail G. Askoff for a five-year term.

Copiague

In Copiague, the polls are open from 1-9 p.m. in the library. Thelibrary board is proposing a 2 percent increase in spending for the coming year going from $3.10 million to $3.17 million. The current tax rate of $9.85 is expecting to go to $10.05. A home assessed at $3,500 will pay approximately $351 a year for liberary services in the coming year.

Trustee incumbents Maria Marziotto and Christopher O'Connell are running unopposed.

Deer Park

Thepolls are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A 2.8 percent increase in spending for the coming year is being proposed with the budget, going from $3.03 million to $3.11 million. If approved, the tax rate for library services will go from $8.30 per $100 to $8.40.

A home assessed at $3,500 will pay $294 a year in library taxes.

Running unopposed for a five-year term is Maria Antonelli.

North Babylon

North Babylon voters head to the Library for a vote from 1-9 p.m. Thecurrent budget of $2.77 million is going to $2.84 million, a 2.4 percent increase. The tax rate is currently $7.81 and will go to $8.03, if approved.

A home assessed at $3,500 will pay $281.05 a year for library services.

Incumbent Anna Fogel is facing opposition for her five-year seat from Ian Wilder.

West Islip

In West Islip, voting in the Library is from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. A proposed budget of $3.3 million represents an increase of 1.85 percent over the current budget of $3.21 million. Thetax appropriation represents a 1.5 percent increase. The homestead rate goes from approximately 85 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to 85-cents. The non-homestead rate will go from approximately 89 cents per $1,000 to 90-cents. Both represent a 1.61 percent increase.

Incumbent Trustee Simonne Harkavy is running unopposed for

Harkavy is running unopposed for a five-year seat.

Lindenhurst

Voting takes place in the Library from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thelibrary board is proposing a budget of approximately $4.2 million, the same as last year. There is also no change in the current tax rate of $8.79. A home assessed at $3,500 will pay approximately $307.65 a year for library services.

Incumbent Trustee Shawn Cullinane is running unopposed for another five-year seat.
