Babylon Youth Project offers a variety of programs

2009-03-26 / Events & Bulletin

Each month, the Babylon Youth Project offers a variety of programs and events as part of its commitment to serving youth in the area.

February began with a make-your-own fortune cookie class and a second session of Basic Photography, which was offered again because of great demand by current and new members.

They also began their Digital Photo Contest. Youth members submitted their printed photos to be displayed in the lobby of Astoria Federal Bank. The contest began Feb. 23rd and continues for five weeks. For the sixth week the winners will be on review and a Grand Prize Winner will be selected. Thethree winners will receive substantial savings bonds donated by Branch Manager Andrew Mulane and the BVYP.

They are also looking forward to their bridgebuilding project and a trip to Suffolk County Community College for a basketball game.

In March, along with arts & crafts, creative cooking, homework helpers, and movie night, they hope to present the prizes to the winners of the Photography Contest. Also, the Village Art & Frame Gallery will display the winners for two weeks in their storefront for the residents of Babylon to view at 35 Deer Park Ave.

However, their special project this month focuses on community service. Project Replenish will have youth members collect non-perishable foods for four of our local food pantries. They will be collecting food in two neighborhoods on two Friday evenings along with collections from solicitations outside Stop & Shop on Montauk Highway. The Babylon Lions Club has agreed to help with the heavy lifting and deliveries to the Churches on the following Saturdays. Dates and details are still in the works.
