Islip Town Supv. Phil Nolan has announced the availability of free foreclosure and homebuyer counseling by the Long Island Housing Partnership. The Default and Foreclosure Prevention Program starts with an initial counseling session focusing on determining the amount and extent of the problem, cause of the default and whether there is a reasonable possibility that the mortgage holder would be able to bring the account current. If it appears that the account can be brought current, the counselor works with the client and the mortgagor to arrange a mutually agreeable and realistic payment plan. "I would like Islip residents to know their rights and their options when it comes to foreclosures and homebuying, by obtaining free counseling and education from reputable non-profit organizations," Supv. Nolan stated. Mortgage counseling and homebuyer education also are available for persons considering the purchase of a new home. It covers every facet of the homebuying process up to and including the mortgage, the contract of sale, and the closing. Counseling is available by appointment at the Hauppauge office of the Long Island Housing Partnership or at the Town of Islip Community Development Agency office in Bay Shore. Please call 631- 435- 4710 to schedule an appointment. Spanish speaking counselors are available.
