Robert C. Morris of Babylon Village, served in the U.S. Army
Robert C. Morris Several years ago, Bill France and his wife toured Europe with a group of friends. It was an experience that was enriched by the knowledge and insight of his friend Bob Morris who, together with his wife Irene, had made the trip with them.
"He was a very intelligent man who could talk on almost any subject," said France. "As we looked at many of the places in Europe, he made them more interesting with his insights."
Robert C. Morris, of Babylon Village, died December 31, 2008. He moved to the community from Islip in 1964.
Mr. Morris served as a First Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Rangers. He was a principal in the Hauppauge School District, beloved by both students and teachers said his family.
Mr. Morris followed in his father's footsteps and became a Tennis Pro, first at Maidstone and then at Bayway Beach and Tennis Club. He was an avid golfer and was active in the Babylon Yacht Club and Rotary Club of which both he and Bill France were members.
"We also were social friends," said France. "Bob loved to engage you in conversation at a stimulating level, and was always fun to be with."
In addition to his wife Irene, who is a teacher in the Lindenhurst School District, Mr. Morris is survived by his children: Karin Vickers and her husband James, and Robert and his wife Patricia, all of Marietta, Georgia. He is also survived by his brothers: Paul and his wife Judy of Colarado, and Wayne of Upstate, New York and by his sister Jody Robus and her husband Robert of Islip. His beloved dog Barney predeceased him.
Mr. Morris reposed at the Claude R. Boyd- Spencer Funeral Home, Babylon Village. A service was held there followed by interment in National Cemetery at Calverton with military honors.
