Man arrested for robbing NB bank
On March 12, Suffolk County Police arrested a Brooklyn man for the robbery of a North Babylon credit union in February of this year. Major Case Investigations Unit detectives charged Leonard Sumpter, 40, of Brooklyn, with one count of Robbery 3rd Degree for the robbery of the Bethpage Federal Credit Union on February 5.
Sumpter was previously arrested by Major Case investigations Unit detectives on February 25, for the robbery of the Suffolk County National bank in Middle Island. Last week's arrest is a result of an indictment warrant. Sumpter has been incarcerated in the Suffolk County Jail since he was arrested on February 25.
Police said Sumpter entered the Bethpage Federal Credit Union and shouted to a teller to give him cash in $50 and $100 bills. He then produced a plastic bag and told the teller to fill it. The teller complied with his demands and gave him cash from the drawer at 11:35 a.m. Sumpter allegedly fled the bank, located at 1350-35 Deer Park Ave., North Babylon.
