In the bottom photo, entire championship team celebrates its Suffolk County championship win As Ieasia Walker sunk shot after shot and magnified her team's on-court ability with every move, the packed-house at St. Joseph's College (L.I.) quickly turned from a happy-go-lucky Sachem East cheering section to a Copiague favored atmosphere.

The pre-game baby powder douse - ala Lebron James - for Sachem East's Kristen Doherty was long forgotten when Walker and cohort Gabby Gibson beat the No. 2 Lady Flaming Arrows, 73- 64, in the Suffolk County Class AA girls basketball championship, Friday, March 6. It's Copiague's third county title and first since 2003, the same year the Lady Eagles won a New York State championship.

Walker finished with a game-high 34 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and six steals, while Gibson added 25 points.

"It feels good," a smiling and tired Walker said after the game. "I've waited six years for this."

No. 4 Copiague (19-4) also beat Wyandanch on Sunday, March 8 for the overall Section XI girls basketball title, which is merely for bragging rights. The Lady Eagles have a more pressure-filled game on Friday against Syosset in the Long Island Class AA championship at Hofstra University.

Doherty was clearly Sachem's (22-1) main weapon throughout the entire season and Copiague's main concern was stopping her, which it did brilliantly in the first half, allowing her to put up just six shots.

"We used a box-andone on her," Walker said. "We tried to make her go to the rig ht as much as possible. It worke d. She was forced to pass to her teammates and they weren't ready."

Doherty still managed to score 27 points, but Copiague looked unmatched at times, forcing Sachem to make foolish passes and turnovers.

Sachem led 17-16 after the first quarter, but Copiague gained the lead at 4:48 of the second quarter off a routine layup by Walker and the Lady Eagles never looked back.

The South Carolina-bound Walker was marvelous in her approach. She dished the ball out, took clutch shots when necessary and was vocal.

"She's grown so much since she was a seventh grader," Copiague coach Carole Olsen said. "She's unbelievable."

Olsen hopes the unbelievable play keeps up, because the tough games are just starting.

Other members of the Lady Eagles are Christina Adu, Nicole Brown, Rena Brown, Hannalee Fordyce, Gabrielle Gibson, Domyae Ivor y- Byrd, Charde Locket, Judith Pierre, Dominique Smith, Sallie Thomas, Raven Walker and Chelsea Williams. Coach is Carole Olsen; JV Coach Mike Ferretti, and assistant coaches Yvan Garcia and Lisa Machia.
