Everybody in attendance got to visit Ireland during their free "trip around the world" at Sunquam Elementary School's 2009 Multi-Cultural Day. S.C. Leg. Lou D'Amaro (D-Huntington Station) joined students, teachers, administrators and board members from the Half Hollow Hills School District as they "traveled" to Ireland and other countries during the always-exciting day-long program that exposes students to cultures and customs from around the world in a fun and educational setting. Organized and run by parents in the Sunquam PTA, some of the other countries represented this year included Italy, Eqypt, Australia and Israel. Students from Half Hollow Hills High School East also participated in the day, serving as Italian chefs, European soccer players and tour guides. "Multi-Cultural Day is a wonderful way to embrace our differences and help us understand our cultural roots," Leg. D'Amaro said. "I applaud the parents, teachers and administrators for making Sunquam the gateway to the world through the development of this wonderful educational program."
