Islip teams up with AAA for Bicycle Rodeo

Supv. Phil Nolan announced that the Town of Islip Parks and Recreation Department and AAA New York will be teaming up to host a Bicycle Rodeo on Sat., May 2, 2009, 9 to 11 a.m. at the Sayville Marina Park, located at the end of Foster Avenue in Sayville. May is National Bike Safety Month and the perfect time to educate kids in our community about how to stay safe on their bicycles in the summer months.

Theevent is aimed at promoting bike safety for young riders. Participants bring their own bikes and helmets and can have them checked by bicycle technicians from local bicycle clubs before riding through an organized course consisting of eight stations. Theywill then be tested on a variety of skills and rules of the road.

This pre-Earth Day activity is free, and the first 100 participants to sign up will be given a free helmet. In addition, awards, prizes and refreshments will be distributed. In order for boys and girls to participate, a parent or guardian is required to register a child in advance. Registration forms may be obtained by calling the sports officeat 631-224-5404.
