West Islip Scouts brighten up soldiers from our area stationed in Iraq
      It was a hot October meeting and the girls of Brownie Troop 2250, Manetuck School West Islip, heard from their leader about a group of soldiers that were from our area and were stationed in Iraq. The girls decided that they would like to brighten the soldiers' Halloween. They made Halloween goody bags at their next meeting.

      Edward J. Zero, Superintendent of Eastern Suffolk BOCES, and Interim Superintendent of Western Suffolk BOCES and Nassau BOCES, has received the 2009 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. award from the Suffolk County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission.

      West Babylon Senior High School in the West Babylon School District held school-wide poetry competition recently. One student from each grade was selected to advance to the next round of the Out Loud Poetry Competition in January. Each student presented their chosen poem in front of an enthusiastic student-audience.
