Incumbents win in close race in Babylon Village

In a close race that heated up in the final weeks, incumbent Babylon Village Trustees Kevin Muldowney and Alice Vanderveldt defeated their opposition, Darrell Conway and Elizabeth Rye.     As the winners celebrated their victory at the Hibernian hall last night, they said they congratulated Conway for running a strong campaign.     “Competition is good and healthy and helps us reflect, which is an important part of what we do,” said Vanderveldt who was surrounded by family and friends as the votes were tallied showing her the winner.     “This was a close election and it is nice to get confirmation on what you are doing for the public,” said Muldowney. “Darrell ran a strong race  and I applaud that because that is what the Democratic process is all about.”     Unofficial tallies showed Muldowney with 886 votes, Vanderveldt with 752, Conway with 700 and Rye with 250.     Watch next week’s edition of the Beacon for full story.
