A fire broke out at a home at 21 Litchefield Ave., Babylon last week, but a quick stop by Babylon firefighters limited most of the damage to a second floor bedroom of the home, which was occupied by a mother and her teenaged daughter. There were no serious injuries reported.

The call about the fire came in at approximately 4:30 p.m., Tues., Feb. 10. Fire Chief Kevin Morrow said that 3rd Ass't Chief Michael Sasuk was first to arrive at the scene and reported a working fire. Firefighters had just been out on another call and made it to the scene quickly, said Morrow. In all, about 55 volunteers responded.

The fire broke out when the teenager was attempting to light some incense candles. "One dropped and caught some flammable material nearby," said Morrow. "The mother and daughter first tried to put it out themselves before calling the fire department, which wasted some precious time."
