•Joseph Wilson, of Central Islip, a 12th grader at Holy Trinity Diocesan High School, Hicksville, was named to the "A" honor roll for the first quarter of the school year.

•Donald Hensel, of Islip Terrace, was awarded an Educational Foundation Academic Distinction Scholarship to attend Alfred State College, Alfred, New York. Hensel is slated to graduate in 2009 from East Islip High School and intends to enroll in the engineering science program.

•Named to the dean's list at the University of Scranton, Scranton, Pennsylvania, for the fall 2008 semester are Kaitlin C. Dinota of East Islip and Deirdre L. Rocklein of Islip Terrace.

•The following local residents received bachelor's degree from the State University of New York College at Oneonta at the December commencement: from Islip are Steven Michael Erickson, Yvonne ElizabethFerrara, Kyle Alexander Murcott and Diana Marie Smith and from Islip Terrace is Kristen Mary Dewey.

•The following Bay Shore residents have been named to the dean's list for the fall 2008 semester at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute: Conor Cocheles, Michael Kehoe and Patrick Sullivan.

•Melissa A. Presti, of Brightwaters, was named to the dean's list at Morrisville State College, Morrisville, New York for the fall 2008 semester. She is majoring in animal science, equine science and management.
