Monster storm hits the area
A storm, quickly called the “Monster of March” hit Long Island and the area today, dumping more than ten inches of snow. Most schools were closed and those who decided to stay home from work can ask S.C. Exec. Steve Levy for an “excuse” note for their bosses tomorrow. He sent out a directive calling a state of emergency and asking the public to “stay at home” if at all possible, to allow the emergency workers to plow and clear the streets. By late today, most of the streets were passable and hopes were high that tomorrow’s morning rush hour will be easier, that is, of course, if temperatures don’t drop dramatically and turn all of the white stuff to ice.
Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino said crews began working at 1 p.m., last night and were assisted by extra workers later in the day. "Things went very well," he said.
